Outdoor Blankets
An outdoor blanket makes the sideline, the campsite or a picnic on damp grass a lot more comfortable. This guide compares picnic blankets, insulated stadium and camping blankets, and wearable blankets with sleeves. Gløde does not sell outdoor blankets yet; we do have guides on heated blankets and seat cushions.

Which outdoor blanket suits you?
| Type | Good for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Picnic blanket with a water-resistant underside | Picnics, the beach, the park; sitting on damp grass | Made for sitting on, not for wrapping around you |
| Insulated stadium or camping blanket | The stands, the sideline, the campsite, the terrace in March | Bulkier; check that it rolls or folds small enough to carry |
| Wearable blanket (blanket poncho or blanket with sleeves) | Keeping your hands free on the sideline, at the campsite or on the terrace | Less useful as a rug to sit on |
What to look for
- Water-resistant underside: a coated back keeps out the damp when you sit on grass, sand or a cold stand.
- Filling: a filled, quilted blanket usually feels warmer around you than a single layer of fleece.
- Packability: a carry strap, a bag or a roll-up design makes it easy to take along.
- Size: large enough for two on the grass, or a single size for a seat in the stands.
- Washing: outdoor blankets get muddy, so check the care label before you buy.
Warmer still: heated blankets and cushions
An ordinary blanket keeps in the warmth you already have. If you sit still in the cold for a long time, added heat can help. Gløde does not sell heated blankets or cushions either; these guides compare the types.
- Heated blankets: battery, USB and mains types explained.
- Heated seat cushions: for a cold seat in the stands, the high seat or the campsite.
- How to stay warm watching football: blanket, layers and a warm seat on the touchline.
- Heated clothing for camping: staying warm in a tent or campervan without mains power.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a picnic blanket and a stadium blanket?
A picnic blanket is made to sit on: large, flat and often with a water-resistant underside. A stadium blanket is made to wrap around you: softer, and often filled or lined with fleece. Some blankets try to do both.
Is a waterproof underside worth it?
If you sit on grass, sand or a cold stand, yes. Damp soaks through an ordinary blanket quickly. A water-resistant back keeps you dry and the top side clean. For wrapping around you on a chair, it matters less.
What is a wearable blanket?
A blanket you wear like a poncho or with sleeves, sometimes with a hood. Your hands stay free for a cup, a phone or a camera, and the blanket does not slide off. It suits the sideline, the campsite and the terrace.
Which outdoor blanket works for camping?
A packable, insulated blanket you can use on a chair, in the tent or around your shoulders in the evening. A water-resistant underside helps if you also put it on the ground, and a carry strap makes it easy to bring along.
