Washing gloves the wrong way is the fastest way to ruin a good pair: leather that hardens, fleece that shrinks or a coating that peels off. With the right approach per material, your gloves will last a lot longer.
Leather: very different care from fabric
Leather gloves should almost never go in the washing machine. Clean stains with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, and let them dry at room temperature, away from a radiator or heater. Fast drying with heat is the main cause of hardening and cracking in leather. Treat leather occasionally with a leather conditioner or waterproofing product to keep it supple, especially after exposure to rain or snow.
Washing softshell and fleece
Always check the care label first. Softshell gloves can often go on a cold or hand-wash cycle in the machine, ideally in a laundry bag to protect the coating. Fleece gloves are usually safest hand-washed in lukewarm water. Wash both materials separately from zips, velcro or denim that can create lint or cause abrasion.

Drying and storing
Always let gloves dry completely in the air before storing them, ideally flat or loosely folded to keep their shape. Store them somewhere dry and out of the sun to prevent discolouration and the material becoming brittle.
