Low voltage. Common sense.
In short: yes, heated clothing is safe to wear when you use it as intended. Gløde vests and the Øney insert run on 5 V USB, the low voltage of an ordinary USB port, and carry the CE marking. You choose from three heat levels. The part that deserves most care is the power bank: keep it dry, never use a damaged one, and remove it before washing.

Low voltage: 5 V USB
Gløde vests and the Øney insert run on 5 V from a USB power bank. That is the voltage of an ordinary USB port, far below the mains voltage in your wall socket.
The vests and the Øney carry the CE marking. With it, the manufacturer declares that the product meets the European requirements that apply to it.
Heat levels: start low
All Gløde heated clothing has three heat levels. The Høgge vests and the Øney go up to 50 °C. The Pølar parka goes up to 60 °C. The Øven gloves run from 35 to 50 °C. The Høgge for women and the Øney have overheating protection.
- Wear a layer underneath. A shirt between you and the heating zones is more comfortable.
- Start on the lowest level. Turn it up only when you need to.
- Too warm? Turn it down. Or switch it off.
- Switch off when you take it off. Disconnect the power bank before you put the garment away.
The power bank deserves the most care
The energy sits in the power bank, so that is where attention pays off. This is general advice for any power bank, ours included.
- Damaged or swollen? Stop using it. Do not charge it again. Hand it in at a battery collection point.
- Charge it in the open. On a hard surface, not under a pillow, a duvet or a pile of clothes.
- Keep it dry. A power bank does not belong in the rain or in the washing machine.
- Use the supplied cable. Replace a damaged cable straight away.
- Mind the cold. Batteries deliver less in the cold. Keep the power bank in an inner pocket if you can.

Rain and snow
Water-repellent is not waterproof. The Høgge vests and the Høgge² are water-repellent: the fabric sheds drizzle and light snow for a while. The Pølar parka is water-repellent and windproof and has a rain hood. The Øven gloves are water- and windproof.
In steady rain, wear a waterproof coat over a vest and keep the power bank dry. Has a garment got soaked? Switch it off, disconnect the power bank and let everything dry fully before you use it again.
Washing
Always remove the power bank, or the glove batteries, before you wash. Reconnect only when the garment is completely dry. The full steps per product are in how to wash heated clothing.
Who should be careful
- People who cannot feel heat well. Heated clothing is not for anyone who cannot clearly feel when something gets too warm.
- Babies and small children. It is not meant for them.
- Sleeping. Do not sleep in heated clothing unless the manufacturer says it is allowed.
- A medical implant or a medical condition. Ask your doctor before you use it.

Frequently asked questions
Is heated clothing safe?
Used as intended, yes. Gløde vests and the Øney insert run on 5 V USB low voltage and carry the CE marking. Start on a low heat level, keep the power bank dry and undamaged, and remove it before washing.
Can you get an electric shock from a heated vest?
Gløde vests run on 5 V USB. That is the voltage of an ordinary USB port and far below mains voltage. Even so, disconnect the power bank if the vest gets soaked, and never use a damaged cable or power bank.
Can I wear heated clothing in the rain?
Water-repellent is not waterproof. A water-repellent vest copes with drizzle for a while. In steady rain, wear a waterproof coat over it and keep the power bank dry. If the garment gets soaked, switch it off and let it dry fully.
Can I sleep in heated clothing?
We advise against it. Do not sleep in heated clothing unless the manufacturer says it is allowed. Switch it off and disconnect the power bank before you settle down for a nap.
Is heated clothing suitable for children?
Not for babies and small children. They cannot tell you clearly when something is too warm. The same goes for anyone who cannot feel heat well.
Can I use heated clothing if I have a medical implant?
If you have a medical implant or a medical condition, ask your doctor before you use heated clothing. We cannot advise on that.
